Incompletes

Allowing a student to take an "incomplete" is entirely at the discretion of the faculty member; however, he/she may wish to confer with the cohort's Academic Program Coordinator before reaching a decision. Faculty members contemplating allowing an incomplete should:

  • be aware of and follow Appalachian's policies and deadlines for awarding and grading incompletes. Different policies govern undergraduate and graduate level course incompletes.
  • insure that the student requesting the incomplete understands what he/she must do to receive a grade.
  • take any steps necessary to insure that the student will have access to online course materials and can meet any web-based requirements until the grade is awarded or the deadline is reached for clearing the incomplete (when unchanged incompletes are automatically assigned the grade of F).
  • Assign the grade if/when the coursework is successfully completed, so that a grade of F is not automatically assigned.
