Library Assistance for Distance Ed Faculty
The Carol G. Belk Library is committed to meeting the needs of all Appalachian faculty, students, and staff wherever these individuals are located. Faculty teaching "off-campus" (extension courses) can expect that all of the services available for their main campus course instruction are available for their extension instruction. The Distance Learning Library Services website provides comprehensive information about and access to services. In addition, Dr. Martha H. Kreszock, the Coordinator of Distance Learning Library Services, is available by email at kreszocmh@appstate.edu or by phone 828-262-7188 to answer questions or to provide assistance. Faculty are encouraged to contact Dr. Kreszock as soon as possible after receiving an extension instruction assignment.
The Distance Learning Library team is available to meet with extension classes online, virtually, or face-to-face. They will introduce students to electronic databases, special document delivery services (including home book delivery and electronic delivery of articles), as well as other library services and support for students. Faculty are encouraged to schedule a library instruction session early in the semester as students who have been introduced to library resources as part of a scheduled instructional time have been shown to make more use of library resources throughout their programs. Click here for more information and to schedule a library instruction session.
Appalachian's Library has developed written library service agreements with the ten community colleges in the Appalachian Learning Alliance, affording Appalachian students certain privileges and assistance at those sites. The library also works with those community colleges to deliver resources (e.g., printed books and journal articles can be placed on reserve at those sites). Faculty whose courses require special library services should contact Dr. Kreszock.
Please Note:
- At the beginning of each term there is a brief lag time before registered students are entered as patrons in the library database, and thus, library dependent assignments made before the beginning of a semester may not be possible for some students. The Distance Learning Library Services Office also observes limited hours during intersessions.
- Faculty are asked to announce, each semester, to their classes that extension students may visit the main campus library and may schedule appointments, in advance of the visit, with librarians. They must bring their Appalachian State University ID Card if they wish to check out materials (if they have a "photo-less ID--they must present at least one official/government ID with a photo along with their Appalachian ID).
