Support & Services for Faculty

Course Handouts:

Each department has a limited supply budget to support paper, photocopying, and other supplies needed for distance education courses. Questions regarding the use and limits of the departmental budget for handouts (that must be printed and distributed to a class) should be directed to either the department chair or the administration assistant. Handouts can also be posted to the web (directly or via the ASULearn course) so that students can print them in advance of class.

Disability Services/Accommodations:

If you have a disability and may need reasonable accommodations in order to have equal access to the University's courses, programs, and activities, please contact the Office of Disability Services (828.262.3056 or www.ods.appstate.edu).

Special Supplies:

Each department has a limited supply budget for the purchase of supplies needed for distance education courses. Questions regarding the use and limits of the budget should be directed to either the department chair or the administrative assistant.

Software Access for Students:

Faculty members whose courses require students to use special software during class periods should notify the Office of Distance Education of that need via the Course Request Form. Should the need arise after the form has been submitted to the Office of Distance Education, the faculty member should contact Mary Englebert, Director of Distance Education, at englebertmf@appstate.edu, well in advance of the need to see if arrangements can be made to provide the software. The email should include the name of the program, the location, the course, & the section number. The most common mechanism for software access is the Virtual Desktop (VDI) which is installed at most of the extension sites (see the Technology page for more information on the VDI). When students require software on their personal computers in order to complete assignments, they should first check to see if the software is available at a discount through Computer Central in Appalachian's Bookstore or as a download through Technology Support Services. Faculty should not routinely discount the possibility that software needed for coursework is not available to extension students.
